Introduction to genus

EucomisEucomis names is derived from the Greek eukomes, which means beautiful headed, a reference to the tuft of leaves at the crown of the flower spike. It is more commonly known as the Pineapple Lily, or Cape Hyacinth.

These marvelous and amazingly easy plants has its habitat in Tropical and South Africa, it can be found in Kwazulu Natal, Transvaal, Swaziland and also the Eastern Cape.

EucomisUse the Eucomis in pots, pans and containers, border and as cutflower, there are seldom easier and more random used plants to be found.
Especially the dark leaved, but also the green leaved, red rimmed forms are splendid from the moment the submerge from the bulb. Therefore, keep a close look, and follow as they grow and continueously change, flower and set buds which can stay until frost forces the plant to go into dormancy.
